The course contains information regarding appropriate safeguards to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, guidance on handling exposure, checklists, use of protective equipment, and reporting requirements. It also covers disposal of hazardous waste and management of hazardous and other chemical materials.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

• Identify the greatest risk to healthcare workers
• Identify engineering controls and procedural controls to prevent exposure
• Outline steps to follow should exposure occur
• Identify appropriate methods for handling and disposing of sharps and waste materials
• Comply with OSHA universal precaution standards
