This course will provide a nurse or medical professional working in an ophthalmic setting the knowledge of all eye systems and how they function, thus allowing clear communication with doctors and patients to ensure quality patient care.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- List the elements of the fibrous, vascular, and nerve layer of the eye.
- Describe the bones in the orbit, and the purpose of the openings in the orbit.
- Explain the functions of the eyelids, eyebrows, eyelashes, accessory glands, and lacrimal apparatus.
- Summarize the functions of the extraocular muscles.
- Define heterotropia, heterophoria, and orthophoria.
- Label the structure of the visual pathway, and describe common visual field defects associated with pathway structure.
